Bernstine Announces Grant for New Fire Tanker in Washington Township
December 19, 2025
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) announced today Washington Township, on behalf of the Volant Volunteer Fire Company, has received $200,000 in Local Share Account (LSA) funds to purchase a new fire tanker to better serve residents of Washington Township.
Local Share Account grants are funded through gaming revenues under Act 71 of 2004 and are used to support economic development, community improvement and public interest projects.
“This investment is about keeping our communities safe and ensuring our volunteer firefighters have the tools they need to do their jobs effectively,” said Bernstine. “By securing these LSA funds, we’re helping the Volant Volunteer Fire Company strengthen emergency response efforts and better protect lives and property in Washington Township.”
The funding will be used to purchase a larger fire tanker with a 2,000-gallon water capacity. Currently, the Volant Volunteer Fire Company operates two tankers with capacities of 1,000 and 1,800 gallons. The addition of the new tanker will significantly enhance firefighting capabilities by increasing available water supply, allowing firefighters to more effectively control and extinguish fires while minimizing property damage and loss.
