Bernstine Applauds Launch of RowAmerica Pittsburgh at Lake Arthur, Backed by Philanthropist Howard Winklevoss
October 9, 2025
BUTLER – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) today announced the upcoming launch of RowAmerica Pittsburgh, a state-of-the-art rowing facility scheduled to open in spring 2026 at Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park. This project is made possible through the support of entrepreneur and philanthropist Howard Winklevoss, whose passion for youth development and rowing excellence is bringing new opportunities and investment to the region.
To mark the announcement, a press conference will be held on Friday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m., at the Bear Run Boat Ramp on Bear Run Road in Portersville, the future site of RowAmerica Pittsburgh.
“I am proud to see this project come to our region,” said Bernstine. “RowAmerica Pittsburgh will introduce young people and families to the incredible sport of rowing while also helping to create local jobs, promote healthy outdoor recreation and attract visitors to one of Pennsylvania’s most beautiful state parks. I thank Howard Winklevoss for his vision and dedication to investing in our communities.”
This initiative will provide a significant boost to the local economy and community engagement efforts by offering new opportunities for youth development, recreational tourism and outdoor activity across Butler and Lawrence counties.
Located on the 3,000-acre Lake Arthur, the facility will serve as a hub for recreational and competitive rowing. It will offer programming for athletes of all skill levels, from first-time rowers to elite competitors. The project includes a multi-million dollar investment in training and boathouse facilities, with construction set to begin this fall.
Programming will include youth and adult rowing teams; learn-to-row clinics; competitive junior’s and masters’ teams; and partnerships with local schools, universities and community organizations.
“Rowing teaches discipline, teamwork and resilience,” said Winklevoss. “There is no sport I have seen that does more to build character, integrity and work ethic in young people. I am proud to help bring RowAmerica to western Pennsylvania, where these values can thrive."
Bernstine emphasized the importance of investing in youth development and outdoor recreation as key tools for long-term community growth. “Whether giving a teenager their first chance at competitive sports or welcoming visitors to our state parks, this project reflects the kind of public-private partnership that makes our region stronger.”
Programming is expected to begin in April 2026. Interested individuals, schools and organizations can visit RowAmericaPittsburgh.com for more information and updates.
