Mustello, Bernstine Announce PENNVEST Loan for Butler County Water System Upgrades

HARRISBURG – Reps. Marci Mustello (R-Butler) and Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) today announced the Pennsylvania American Water Company will receive a $25,100 low-interest loan from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to support vital infrastructure improvements in Center Township.

The funding will be used to upgrade the Fisher, Brewster and Brewster Booster pump stations. Planned work includes the construction of new wet wells at the Fisher and Brewster stations, the addition of an underground equalization (EQ) tank at Fisher and an above-ground EQ tank at Brewster, and the installation of new pumps. Emergency generators will also be added or replaced at each location. These upgrades aim to improve system reliability and service efficiency for residents.

“This is a smart investment that will improve the efficiency and resiliency of our regional wastewater infrastructure,” said Mustello. “These enhancements are essential in protecting public health, our natural environment, the longevity of the equipment at these facilities and the infrastructure itself. Furthermore, it prepares us better for future wet weather emergencies.”

Bernstine highlighted the benefit to the broader community. “Strong infrastructure supports strong communities,” said Bernstine. “These improvements will help ensure families and businesses in our region continue to have access to safe and reliable water service.”

PENNVEST, established in 1988, provides financial assistance in the form of grants and low-interest loans for the design, engineering and construction of publicly and privately owned drinking water, storm water, and wastewater facilities across Pennsylvania.
