HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) today announced the approval of a $1.12 million grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to the Butler County Conservation District aimed at improving local agricultural practices and environmental sustainability. The funding will support the construction of essential facilities designed to consolidate heifers into a single location while enhancing waste management processes at Four Seasons Dairy Farm.
“This marks a vital investment in our agricultural community and the environment,” said Bernstine. “The grant will not only improve infrastructure for our farmers but will also contribute to healthier soil and water in Butler County. By modernizing these facilities, we’re ensuring our farming practices are sustainable for generations to come.”
The project will include the installation of a roofed composting facility, a 12- by 80-foot diameter round manure storage tank, roof runoff controls, underground outlet pipes, fencing and access lanes. The existing, outdated manure storage tank and barn will be replaced to mitigate contaminated runoff, thereby protecting the surrounding environment.
The new facilities will play a crucial role in reducing pollution and enhancing the efficiency of local farms. By centralizing operations, farmers can better manage waste, ultimately leading to improved public health and environmental outcomes.
“This grant demonstrates our commitment to supporting local agriculture while safeguarding our natural resources,” said Bernstine.
PENNVEST funding is sourced from a combination of state-approved funds, federal grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and recycled loan repayments from previous awards. Disbursement of funds occurs after project-related expenses are paid and receipts are submitted.
